Sermon Snippets: Truly Amazing Grace - Mark 2:1-3:6

Grace can easily become commonplace.
We can mindlessly mouth the words to that classic hymn, "Amazing Grace".
We can celebrate God's grace on an bi-annual basis during Christmas and Easter as we commemorate Jesus' arrival and ultimate sacrifice.
We can attend a church or school with 'Grace' prominently featured.
We can name our daughters after it or buy a piece of artwork to hang on our walls.

We can also let it revolutionize our lives.
Jesus puts on a series of displays of grace in Mark 2 that the world has rarely seen. He embodies grace in controversial ways and he extends grace beyond 'appropriate' boundaries.

Grace is amazing because it can be so dangerous. Grace in it's truest form is controversial and scandolous.

Even it it's ultimate form, the Cross, we often overlook the fact that God let His Son take on our sin, suffer, and die because of grace. Why would God do that? Why would God make that the point of entry into his Kingdom? Why would God save the dirtiest, ugliest, most rebellious sinners through His perfect Son?

Grace.

Why would God expect us who receive it, go to the same great lengths to share grace? Why wouldn't God just give us a list of do's and don'ts, so we know where we stand? Why would God invest so much in us, when he could do it Himself?

Grace. It's truly amazing.
